FAQs

What is Hepatitis A?
Hepatitis A is caused by a virus which is present in shit. See also About Hepatitis A and How Hepatitis A is passed on.

What are the effects of Hepatitis A?
See
Symptoms & Effects.

How do I get vaccinated against Hepatitis A?
See Vaccination.

Do I have to pay for the vaccination?
For gay and bisexual man it should be available free from many sexual health clinics. For more information, see Vaccination.

Someone I know has just been diagnosed with hepatitis A. What can I do to protect myself from getting it?
If you haven’t already been vaccinated, you can protect yourself by getting vaccinated as soon as possible after contact with an infected person (up to 7-14 days). Ask your doctor or phone a sexual health clinic for advice. Sexual contact with an infected person is the most risky but it is possible to pick up the virus from (uncooked) food they have prepared.
