about Hepatitis A

Out of the three types of hepatitis covered in this website, hepatitis A is seen as the least dangerous.

People who get it will recover and don’t stay infectious. There’s only a risk of it killing you if you’re elderly or have other liver problems. Often people get infected without realising because they don’t notice any symptoms or they get mild symptoms which they think are something like flu.

All the same, hepatitis A can make you feel very ill for weeks or months. So if you’re at risk it makes sense to get the vaccination against it.

The main ways the hepatitis A virus spreads is through contaminated food or water (especially in developing countries) or during sex.
